"What is the importance of studying the life and works or Rizal?"
Honestly, I am a student who hates history classes. I find it boring and personally, I can't really find interest studying it. However, I came up with the realization of how important it is to use educational institutions to make students, specially the youth, appreciate history and realize that the country should be part of their priorities and serving one's country is an innate and inborn duty for all.

Jose Rizal inspired and influenced his countrymen to fight for our country. He is open-minded, intelligent, and hardworking. He is also brave because he let himself be involved in politics even though it is dangerous. He showed how he valued our country that he put it first instead of his safety. Like a normal person, he also encounters a lot of women who made him interested in love.

A one-peso coin, man’s head in a matchbox, famous park in Manila, and a picture in elementary classrooms; simple interactions with him started from all of it in childhood years. A journey with Rizal is worthwhile after a long process, it is like a voyage to your favorite place. Throughout the venture, there are learnings in every step and in every movement of the paddle.

Life and Works of Rizal made me realize that there are a lot of things that we need to discover in our national hero. We often think that we knew everything because since grade school we have been studying his life. But it is not, what we know is just the surface and there’s a lot more underneath.

Dr. Jose P. Rizal was suspected to be Jack the Ripper, a prostitute murderer in London from year 1888 to 1889, the same year when Rizal went and left London. Starting on the year 1888, the same year when Dr. Jose Rizal arrived at London, a certain crime started to occur in which until today the man behind is still unknown.
He has 3 reasons why he chose to live in London the first one is to be able to improve his knowledge of the English language, to study and annotate Morga’s Sucesos de Las Islas Filipinas, and he found London as a safe place for him to carry on with his fight against Spanish tyranny. The crime involves the man with his famous alias of Jack the Ripper, another name for him are “The Whitechapel Murderer/Butcher”, and “Leather Apron.”
According to British History, Jack the Ripper terrorized London in1888, killing at least five women and mutilating their bodies in an unusual manner, indicating that the killer had a substantial knowledge of human anatomy.
The culprit was never captured—or even identified—and Jack the Ripper remains one of England’s, and the world’s, most infamous criminals. Various letters were supposedly sent by the executioner to the London Metropolitan Police Service (frequently known as Scotland Yard), provoking officials about his abhorrent exercises and hypothesizing on murders to come.
The moniker "Jack the Ripper" begins from a letter—which may have been a scam—distributed at the hour of the assaults. Notwithstanding incalculable examinations guaranteeing complete proof of the ruthless executioner's character, their name and thought process are as yet obscure.
Different hypotheses about Jack the Ripper's personality have been delivered in the course of recent decades, which incorporate cases charging the well-known Victorian painter Walter Sickert, a Polish vagrant and even the grandson of Queen Victoria. Since 1888, in excess of 100 suspects have been named, adding to across the board old stories and ghoulish diversion encompassing the riddle.
We believe that Dr. Jose P. Rizal has nothing to do with the London’s most famous serial killer of the history, Jack the Ripper. It is true that there are lots of evidences pointing out Rizal as the person behind the crime but still there are other suspects in which the characteristics of the killer fits most.
The top 3 most suspected people were Montague Druitt, James Maybrick, and Michael Ostrog. We believe that it’s just a coincidence that those evidences fits well with Rizal because there is one last case recorded in year 1889, which is said to be another work of Jack the Ripper and on that time Dr. Jose Rizal is not in London anymore, though many people said that the last crime isn’t don’t by Jack the Ripper anymore there are still some who believed that it really is a crime of that person.

Until today the case is still a mystery. Till now everything about it is a speculation. If the Jack the Ripper case will be studied properly we can conclude that Rizal really is a great fit to be the Ripper, especially that there is an uncertainty with the last Ripper case which happened when Rizal isn’t in London anymore. There are still a lot more evidences that keeps on pointing out Rizal aside from what happened during that time.
Dr. Jose Rizal was a doctor, particularly, an ophthalmologist and Jack the Ripper is suspected to be a doctor because the way he remove the victim’s organs implied anatomical knowledge. London and Ripper killed prostitutes in Whitechapel, London. Rizal is known for having many lovers and Jack the Rippers’ victims are all women. Rizal copied, by hand, the book Sucesos de Las Islas Filipinas at daylight and Jack the Ripper killed prostitutes always at night time in the East End. Rizal is a Freemason while in the word ‘Juwes’ of Jack the Ripper, which might mean Freemason, makes him related somehow to it. Jose Rizal and Jack the Ripper’s initials is both JR.
In conclusion, the Filipino renowned national hero is still far from being perfectly to be the said serial killer if compared to the other suspects. Among the evidences there are still some which will not point Dr. Jose Rizal out and that is the last Ripper murder case that happened when Rizal is not in London anymore, but there are other suspects in which the findings regarding Jack the Rippers characteristics fits perfectly. We, Filipinos see him as a hero, patriot, and brave man for writing Noli me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. However, if it is true that Alice Mackenzie was indeed one of Jack the Ripper’s victims, then probably Jose Rizal was not him because at the time she was killed, Jose Rizal was not present in London anymore. Aside of that, there is no strong evidence to prove that he is the Ripper. They don’t even have a connection with each other. We personally believe he is not the serial killer, as always, he is the Philippines’ National Hero.

medical studies in Europe so
he could perform eye surgery on his cataract-stricken mother. But little did we know that Rizal had another mission, and that is to observe and study European society in order to prepare himself in the great task of liberating his oppressed people from the Spanish tyranny.
Rizal’s departure for Spain was kept secret to avoid detection by the Spanish authorities and the friars. Even his own parents did not know because his mother would not allow him to do so. His brother Paciano did everything to ensure that he can live the
country secretly.
He even secured him a passport with the name Jose Mercado. By this time, he felt very sad leaving his family and the country. To ease his sadness, he entertains himself by doing some sketches of his passengers and this he saw along the way.
When he arrived in Singapore, he visited some historical spots and recorded every detail of what he was able to observe. After days of staying in Singapore, Rizal boarded the ship Djemnah which was a French steamer, and left Singapore.
He engages himself in a conversation with the other passenger by speaking a mixed Spanish-Latin and sketching on a paper. Soon enough, he was able to improve his knowledge of the French language. When he arrived at Colombo, he was amazed because of the scenic beauty and elegant building.
The voyage continued and he sighted the coast of Africa which he called the ‘inhospitable land but famous’. Next is Aden wherein he found the city hotter than Manila and was amused to see camels for the first time. The ship proceeded to the city of Suez and went sightseeing. He was impressed by the beautiful sunlight which reminded him of Calamba and his family. Rizal landed at the Port Said and was fascinated to hear multi-racial inhabitants speaking a wide variety of languages. Despite being away from his hometown and country, Rizal instilled his love,
bravery, and determination against Spanish friars.
He cared for those Filipinos who were oppressed back in the Philippines. There are rumors circulating that he left the Philippines to prevent him from marrying Leonor Rivera. But there are no accounts supporting this claim. But it was proven that one of the main reasons why Rizal traveled to Europe is to observe and study European society to prepare himself in the great task of liberating his oppressed people from Spanish tyranny.
The Philippines during that time was faced with an unsure future. But, during his stay in Europe, it opened and broadened his mind, seeing that European countries must be seen as an example that we should try to emulate. It is in his heart and mind that a union of European ideas and cultures found and will find meaning. It exemplifies the importance of an international outlook wherein one strikes a balance between patriotism and the idea of universal brotherhood. He does not feel jealous of other countries who can freely discover the wonders of science and progress on their own. Instead, he took a more enlightened path to learn as much as he could, communicate his ideas, building friendships along the way, and opening himself to new experiences that could help him uplift the rights of every Filipinos against the oppressed people.
ne of the controversies about Rizal is that he retracted before his execution for him to marry
Josephine Bracken, it is one of the manifestations that his connection with the church is diverted because of his writings that shows the unjustifiable doings of the church and the government.

Rizal was promised to the virgin of Antipolo by her mother because her life is at stake while giving birth, her mother nearly died because of Rizal's big head. Rizal fulfilled the promise of his mother in his pilgrimage in Antipolo with his father in 1868.
When Rizal was still a kid, his peculiar intelligence was depicted. His mother was her first teacher, without the use of many books, she succeeded to put a good foundation of knowledge in a short period. When he was three, he already learned his letters and many other skills followed after that.
Moreover, the little Jose always went to the church near their house which shows his religious inclination. As a little kid, he was very promising that his uncles were willing to train him in his intellectual, physical, and artistic aspects. Rizal started his schooling in Biñan when he was nine.
He experienced rough quarrels, painting lessons, and be the best student in his school. The other students always uttered that Rizal knew as much as their teachers, which caused preparations for him to transfer in Manila after a year and a half schooling in Biñan.
They supported him in his education. When Rizal started to study in Manila, he used the surname Rizal instead of Mercado to protect himself and be allowed to enter school because his brother is associated with the martyrdom of the GOMBURZA. In his first year in Ateneo de Manila, he was at the bottom of his class but his perseverance and intelligence were amazing that at the end of the month, he made it to be on top. Fr. Francisco de Paula Sanchez encouraged Rizal to write poetry and study harder. The year 1877 in Ateneo, Rizal finished his studies with the highest honor in each of his subjects.
Meanwhile, he decided to study in UST with the course of Philosophy and Letters however, he shifted after finishing his 1st year. He moved to a medical course upon finding out her mother’s condition, wherein she will be blind due to cataract. While he is in UST, he experienced racial prejudices, the Dominican professors have biased treatment against those students who are Filipinos, which became the reason why he decided to go abroad and continue his study there, but even though he knew that his parents will not support him, he continued his plans to go to Europe secretly. His voyage is not only a travel but it all about acquiring new learnings.

The priests of the church were against him because of his writings that display the tyranny experienced by the Filipinos.
