Bay (laurel) leaves are very important in old western civilizations. It makes a crown for their victorious, brave, intelligent, and creative citizens. Rizal describes his hope that the Filipino youth will pick up these laurels to make them the crown of the motherland. leaves, also known as bay leaves, are used as crowns during the Ancient Greek Olympics wherein the best of the best are treated as heroes. It also represents faith, honor, and fidelity. Filipinos in this time wants to embody these virtues that Rizal represented into it.
