This pot, with regards to the fullness of life of the Filipinos back then, it is often used as to its function, cooking. At some point in the novel, Sisa was preparing food for her children who was about to come home. Unfortunately, her husband, Pedro, came and ate all the food she prepared for her sons.
This is relevant to the social context of the Filipinos who were experiencingpoverty and doesn’t have the drive to pursue more for what is greater. This pot symbolizes as custom for love in nature as Sisa’s way of communicating
her love for her children by means of cooking.
